ANNUAL REPORT 2015
FRASERS HOSPITALITY TRUST
Local Communities
We add value to the local communities through involvement and investment. All of the REIT Manager’s employees
are hired from the local community.
In FY2015, Frasers Hospitality group formed a new committee for corporate social responsibility which guides the
community engagement programmes. In March 2015, the global theme was “Creating memorable experiences”,
under which employees of each property organised their own activities. FHT’s properties are also occasionally used
for community building activities.
The hotels that are independently managed are also active members of their respective local communities,
contributing according to their respective sustainability practices. In FY2015 for example, InterContinental Singapore
donated over 160 mooncakes to Nanyang Polytechnic for underprivileged families and partnered with St Lukes
Eldercare to take the elderly to Gardens by the Bay. The Westin Kuala Lumpur initiates several activities to support
the UNICEF Check Out For Children Challenge yearly in October. ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe organises a monthly
cleaning of Flower Road which is the area around Shin-Kobe station. As part of the supply chain, local communities
benefit from our hotels and serviced residences from employment opportunities, community activities and
increased tourism activities.
Community Engagement
Project Fresh Start – Bringing Hope Home
We believe that developing a well-rounded sustainability program is central to our business. As this is our inaugural
annual report, besides highlighting our key sustainability framework of the core issues, we would like to take this
opportunity to share with our stapled securityholders, our part in local community engagement. In August 2015,
our team participated in our first community initiative through Project Fresh Start under Big Love Child Protection
Specialist Centre. Programs under Big Love provide a more child-centric, family-focused and community-based
support for families known for child protection concerns. Project Fresh Start is built on the importance of a clean
living environment where the home is the beginning of life, where children first form their characters and derive
their strength.
Clean Environment, Fresh Beginnings
Over and above financial assistance, Project Fresh Start aims to organise and clean the homes of families referred
for issues of child abuse, neglect and welfare. The team revamped and rejuvenated the home for a family with two
young children in Singapore to provide the children with better living conditions.
For the project, the team repainted the walls of the house, scrubbed surfaces of floors, kitchen and bathroom.
Furniture were wiped clean and pest control was arranged to clear the roach infestation. A new refrigerator and
a washing machine were also purchased to replace broken appliances while new mattresses and pillows were
delivered to complete the home.
